An old friend of mine from primary school has a blog ( You should check it out!   Anyway, she’s enjoying baking ‘ye olde fashioned’ treats, and as it turns out, she doesn’t have a good chocolate self-saucing pudding recipe. So this post, Katie, is for you!

So although I have no pics to accompany this recipe, here is my no-fail chocolate self-saucing pudding recipe that Mum always made to finish off a Sunday roast dinner.  Did I mention that this is also Matty-Matt’s favourite dessert?  It’s also a great way to impress the men (and chocoholics) in your life, as it’s so easy but tastes soo good!

So what do you need for this devine dessert?  Read on!

Ingredients (serves 4):

1 cup self-raising flour
3/4 cup sugar
2 (well-heaped) Tbsp cocoa
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla (I like vanilla bean paste, but extract works just as well)
60g melted butter

Sift dry ingredients, then stir in milk, vanilla and butter.  Spoon this into a lightly greased (small) casserole dish.

3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 + a bit extra cocoa (I always make this very heaped – means a richer sauce)
1 1/4 cups boiling water

Combine all sauce ingredients until sugar has dissolved.

Gently pour sauce over pudding (pouring onto the back of a spoon helps).  Bake in a moderate ovem for 35min.

Serve with vanilla ice cream.  Delish!
